Supporting children鈥檚 behaviour starts with supporting the educators who care for them every day.

That鈥檚 why we鈥檙e excited to welcome听Riley O鈥橬eill听to 黑料专区 as our new Queensland Senior Behaviour Coach, leading a new Positive Behaviour Guidance Coaching Program across our Queensland services.

The program is part of a three-year Queensland Government鈥揻unded initiative focused on strengthening educator capability, improving behaviour guidance practices, and supporting children鈥檚 wellbeing in early learning environments. But at its heart, this work is about something simple and powerful: helping educators feel confident, supported, and equipped in the moments that matter most.

Riley O'Neill, 黑料专区's new Queensland Senior Behaviour Coach
Riley O'Neill, 黑料专区's new Queensland Senior Behaviour Coach

A coach who understands the realities of the floor

Riley brings more than a decade of experience in early childhood education, having worked across Australia, Taiwan, and Central America. He鈥檚 spent years on the floor as an Early Childhood Teacher and understands the fast pace, high expectations, and emotional load educators carry, alongside the joy and meaning of the work.

鈥淲hen educators feel supported, children feel it too,鈥 Riley says. 鈥淚鈥檝e been there - juggling routines, relationships, transitions, and behaviours all at once. My goal is to make educators鈥 days feel lighter, calmer, and more purposeful.鈥

Riley鈥檚 approach is evidence-informed, relational, and practical. He works alongside teams to build clarity and confidence, supporting educators to understand children鈥檚 needs through a trauma-informed lens and to create predictable, emotionally safe environments where everyone can thrive.

What the Positive Behaviour Guidance Coaching Program looks like in practice

Delivered in partnership with Phoenix Support for Educators, the program is designed to embed consistent, evidence-informed behaviour guidance through coaching, modelling, and practical support, not one-off training sessions.

Across Queensland, Riley and the Behaviour Coaching team will support services by:

  • Visiting centres to observe and support children with ongoing or complex behaviours
  • Identifying underlying needs using the Phoenix Cups model
  • Coaching and modelling co-regulation, routines, transitions, and calm responses
  • Sharing practical strategies educators can apply immediately
  • Strengthening learning environments with visuals, predictable schedules, and purposeful planning
  • Providing follow-up conversations and tailored behaviour support plans
  • Facilitating reflective discussions and Phoenix-aligned professional learning

Over the life of the program, Affinity will also introduce a customised Behaviour Educator Toolkit, a hybrid coaching and mentoring model, annual symposiums, and a suite of practical resources, including podcasts, hard copy tools, and professional learning modules.

These supports are designed to help educators respond confidently to developmental, trauma-related, and complex behaviours, while continuing to meet the National Quality Standards and uphold Affinity鈥檚 commitment to high-quality early education.

Investing in educators to support children

黑料专区 CEO听Glen Hurley听says the program reflects a long-term commitment to educator wellbeing and capability.

鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to support our Queensland educators to build confident, consistent, wellbeing-focused approaches in their daily practice,鈥 Glen says. 鈥淭his work helps create emotionally safe, predictable, and connected learning environments where both children and educators can thrive.鈥

We鈥檙e proud to welcome Riley to the Affinity team and look forward to the positive impact this program will have across our Queensland centres.

In every 黑料专区 centre, moments of curiosity and connection happen daily 鈥 a child sharing an idea, working with a friend, or proudly reflecting on what they鈥檝e learned. (18-26 October 2025) shines a spotlight on these everyday moments and reminds us why they matter: because every child deserves to be heard, respected, and supported as they learn and grow.

鈥淐hildren鈥檚 Week celebrates the rights, talents, and achievements of all children. It鈥檚 a time for families, educators, and communities to recognise the importance of children having a voice, feeling valued, and growing up in safe, respectful environments,鈥 said 黑料专区 Team Manager Katie Hancock.

鈥淭ogether as 黑料专区, we build a community where every child feels heard, respected, and valued.鈥

This year鈥檚 national theme, 鈥淓veryone should know about children鈥檚 rights!鈥 is based on Article 42 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the global commitment to ensuring that children and adults everywhere understand and uphold the rights that help children thrive.

For Affinity, this theme reflects the foundation of our work: nurturing confident, capable learners who know their worth and feel empowered to make a difference in their world.

Strengthening Children鈥檚 Voice and Choice

To mark Children鈥檚 Week, our Education Team has launched a national focus project encouraging educators across all Affinity centres to increase their use of floor books, a collaborative tool that supports children鈥檚 Voice and Choice.

鈥淔loor books empower children to express their ideas, interests, and reflections through drawings, photos, and conversations,鈥 explains Education Advisor Jessica Markoska.

鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting to see children and educators co-construct knowledge by documenting shared experiences. It really fosters a sense of belonging and teamwork.鈥

Floor books give educators a tangible way to capture children鈥檚 thinking and progress, while promoting Inquiry-Based Learning, a cornerstone of our Lifelong Learning Curriculum. They reflect how children learn best 鈥撎齮hrough play, exploration, and collaboration.

鈥淔loor books are a strong way to demonstrate the Early Years Learning Framework principle of 鈥榣earning through play鈥, and support important quality outcomes such as children being curious and resourceful,鈥 Jessica said.

Some centres are also using floor books to strengthen relationships with families, inviting them to contribute ideas or see their child鈥檚 learning journey firsthand, supporting the principles of partnerships and respect for diversity.

Celebrating in Centres Across Australia

Across more than 240 黑料专区 centres, educators are marking Children鈥檚 Week with experiences that help children understand their rights in meaningful, age-appropriate ways.

At in Queensland, for example, the team is hosting a Children鈥檚 Week community event led by Early Childhood Teacher Serena Lucas, in partnership with local children鈥檚 organisations.

鈥淲e are so proud of our commitment and grateful for the opportunity to provide education to children in their first five years,鈥 Serena said.

鈥淎ffinity鈥檚 Lifelong Learning Curriculum is something we鈥檝e deeply embedded for all age groups in our centre, particularly in our Kindergarten room where children are encouraged to understand and know their rights.鈥

These celebrations bring together families, children, and educators, creating moments that highlight belonging, respect, and the joy of learning together.

A Shared Responsibility

National Quality Manager Mel Nour says Children鈥檚 Week is also a timely reminder of the important role educators play in upholding children鈥檚 rights and voices.

鈥淣ational Children鈥檚 Week reminds us of our role as early childhood educators to uphold children鈥檚 rights and voices, reflecting the core principles of the National Quality Framework, which places children鈥檚 agency, participation, and wellbeing at the heart of quality education and care,鈥 Mel said.

At 黑料专区, we鈥檙e proud to champion these values in every aspect of our work, from curriculum and pedagogy to family partnerships and educator development. By listening to children and empowering them to share their ideas, we鈥檙e helping shape confident learners who will carry that sense of agency throughout life.

It鈥檚 celebration time at听Bright Beginnings Children鈥檚 Centre in Taree, with the team officially awarded an听Exceeding National Quality Standard (NQS) rating听in their recent Assessment and Rating.

This achievement is a proud moment for the educators, families, and wider community, and marks a huge milestone for the centre, which was last assessed at听Meeting听in 2019. Now, Bright Beginnings joins the top-performing centres across NSW and Australia recognised for delivering education and care that goes beyond compliance, with continuous improvement and strong outcomes for children at the heart of what they do.

What 鈥淓xceeding鈥 Means

The National Quality Standard sets the benchmark for early childhood education and care in Australia. Services rated听Exceeding NQS听demonstrate practice that is:

  • Beyond the requirements听in at least four of the seven quality areas
  • Consistently embedded听in service operations
  • Shaped by a culture of continuous improvement
  • Delivering positive outcomes for children鈥檚 learning, wellbeing, and development

For families, this means confidence that their children are thriving in a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment every day.

Spotlight on Educators and Leadership

For Centre Manager听Jan Williams, who has been part of the Bright Beginnings community for more than 20 years, the Exceeding result is the culmination of dedicated teamwork and focused improvement since the centre joined 黑料专区 in December 2024.

鈥淎fter we were acquired by Affinity, our new Quality Advisor asked about our Quality Improvement Plan - we proudly showed her 18 focus areas,鈥 laughs Jan. 鈥淗er first advice was 鈥榗hoose three!鈥欌

With renewed focus, the team worked intensively on three core areas:

  • Embedding听Child Safe Standards听across practice
  • Enhancing听outdoor environments听with support from an Affinity-funded playground upgrade
  • Deepening听connections with the community

Jan says the support made a big difference. 鈥淛oining Affinity last year, I did feel nervous but quickly realised I still had a voice, and different support than under our previous owner. The training is amazing, and it鈥檚 clear Affinity wants us to feel confident that we can succeed.鈥

Educators at Bright Beginnings say the result belongs to everyone.听鈥淲e all feel proud that our hard work and commitment to children鈥檚 wellbeing and learning has been recognised,鈥澨齩ne team member shared.

Children and Families at the Heart

When the centre was notified of the upcoming assessment, Jan and her team used the short preparation window to focus on their educators鈥 wellbeing.

鈥淲e wanted our team to feel confident and calm when responding to the Authorised Officer鈥檚 questions, so we reassured them, prepared together, and made sure our evidence was ready,鈥 she explained.

The two-day assessment became a positive experience, with educators proud to share their work. 鈥淲e absolutely love what we do,鈥 says Jan. 鈥淎fter the draft report, we went back with some additional evidence and were over the moon to be awarded Exceeding.鈥

For families, this rating reflects what they already know - that their children are learning, playing, and growing in a safe and supportive environment.

A Shared Commitment Across Affinity

This result is not only a proud milestone for Bright Beginnings, but also a reflection of the strong culture of quality and continuous improvement across 黑料专区.

Currently,听92% of 黑料专区 centres that have been through Assessment and Rating are rated Meeting or Exceeding NQS. In 2025 alone,听13% of centres assessed have achieved an Exceeding rating,听placing them among the top-performing services in Australia.

Behind the statistics are thousands of dedicated educators who show up every day with passion, professionalism, and care. Bright Beginnings鈥 Exceeding rating is one example of how this commitment is making a real difference for children and families across Australia.

Achievements like this highlight the importance of ongoing reflection and improvement across the early education sector. At Affinity, centres are supported by dedicated quality and training teams who work alongside educators to ensure children and families receive the highest standards of care and education.

At 黑料专区, we believe in having serious fun - the kind that brings people together, creates joy, and makes a real difference in our communities. Each year, our centres go above and beyond in their fundraising efforts, and 2025 was no exception.

During July鈥檚 National Pyjama Week, our centres were invited to choose their charity, selecting a cause close to their hearts and rallying their communities to raise funds. And in true Affinity style, our fundraising came with a twist: CEO Tim Hickey pledged to personally match the donation of the top fundraising centre in each state.

From bake sales to fun dress-up days, our educators, families, and children showed incredible generosity and team spirit.

Celebrating Our Fundraising Champions

Here鈥檚 a snapshot of the top fundraising centres and the causes they supported, with CEO-matched donations helping each make an even bigger difference:

NSW Papilio Castle Hill McGrath Foundation $1,633
VIC Milestones Cranbourne North Pyjama Foundation $1,277
ACT Papilio Bruce Pyjama Foundation $558
QLD Milestones Stanthorpe Pyjama Foundation $669
WA All WA Centres Operation Sunshine WA $1,500
NT All NT Centres Foodbank SA/NT $1,000

Total raised (including CEO donations): $6,637 across all states, and countless smiles along the way.

Spotlight on Operation Sunshine WA

One of the newest charities to join our fundraising family in 2025 was Operation Sunshine WA, a volunteer-run organisation helping women and children displaced by family and domestic violence or in the care of child protection services.

As Operation Sunshine WA Chairperson Leah Atkinson shared:

鈥淢any women and children are displaced in traumatic circumstances with no more than the clothes on their backs. They need our help to ensure they have the essential and comfort items needed to provide for their day-to-day needs and give them a sense of dignity in a time of crisis. Operation Sunshine WA is deeply grateful for the kind and generous contributions made by Affinity鈥檚 community of Milestones Early Learning families and teams in WA.鈥

Our WA State Manager Kerri Kyte, alongside Area Manager Kylie Grant and Operations Manager Dawn Marrell, mobilised all WA centres as collection points for Sunshine Packs - backpacks filled with essential items for children in need.

Families and educators donated eagerly, resulting in 50 complete Sunshine Packs containing:

  • Bottle
  • Dummy
  • Pyjamas
  • Outfit
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Soft toy
  • Backpack

Additional donations included nappies, wipes, towels, baby blankets, and toiletries, all delivered with care and love.

Operation Sunshine WA - Packing donated new items

A Shared Commitment

鈥淥ur teams created collection baskets in their foyers and led donation drives within their services,鈥 said Kerri.

鈥淎s a state we managed to create 50 Sunshine Pack backpacks, and we really enjoyed completely connecting for such an important cause.鈥

From WA鈥檚 Sunshine Packs to NSW鈥檚 breast cancer fundraising and VIC鈥檚 Pyjama Foundation support, these efforts are more than just charity events, they鈥檙e a living expression of our Affinity values.

FB Pyjama Week Operation Sunshine WA MS Dalyellup

Add Your Support

Our fundraising may have wrapped up for this year, but these incredible charities welcome donations year-round:

黑料专区 is proud to support our people in making a difference, because when we combine serious fun with serious heart, there鈥檚 no limit to the impact we can have.

Like many families and educators across Australia, we鈥檝e been deeply affected by the recent reports about child safety in early learning. At 黑料专区, we want you to know we鈥檝e heard your concerns, and we鈥檙e acting.

The safety and wellbeing of every child in our care is - and always will be - our highest priority.

We are a community of parents, carers, educators and teachers who share a deep commitment to the children in our care. That鈥檚 why we鈥檝e taken immediate steps to strengthen child safety across all 黑料专区 centres, and to ensure that every team member feels supported and confident in creating safe, nurturing learning environments.

Strengthening Child Protection Through Bravehearts Training

We are proud to announce a new child protection training agreement with , one of Australia鈥檚 most respected child protection organisations.

This expert-led training will support all Affinity educators and leaders in building the skills, knowledge and confidence to keep children safe, every single day.

Through this training agreement:

  • All Affinity employees听will complete Bravehearts鈥櫶Child Protection for Early Years Educators听course via our Learning Hub. It includes case studies, practical tools, and strategies for recognising, responding to and preventing harm.
  • All Centre Managers听will undertake听Creating and Maintaining a Child Safe Environment, a leadership-level course focused on embedding a culture of safety.
  • Annual refreshers听will ensure child protection remains a consistent, visible focus across our centres.

鈥淭he Bravehearts training will give our team real confidence,鈥 says Tanya, a Centre Manager in Townsville. 鈥淚t will help us understand how to spot risks early, have the hard conversations, and support each other in doing the right thing.鈥

Our National Child Safety Program: What鈥檚 Underway

In addition to Bravehearts training, we鈥檝e launched a comprehensive, multi-layered child safety program across all states and territories, overseen by a dedicated Project Management Office at our Support Office.

Here鈥檚 what鈥檚 in progress:

CCTV Installations and Upgrades

We鈥檙e accelerating the rollout of high-quality digital CCTV systems across more than 250 centres, focused on shared areas to enhance visibility, transparency, and protection.

Child-Safe Environment Audits

We're conducting national audits to identify and address blind spots, including in toileting and nappy change areas, and working quickly to implement improvements.

Supervision and Rostering Protocols

We鈥檙e reviewing our rostering practices to further reduce instances of educators working alone with children, aligning with best-practice guidance.

Secure Storage for Personal Devices

While personal devices have been banned in learning environments since 2023, we鈥檙e now installing secure lockable lockers to support compliance and reduce distractions.

Digitising Staff Training and Movement Records

We鈥檙e transitioning to a centralised, digital tracking system for staff training, onboarding and centre visits, helping us ensure consistent compliance and visibility across the organisation.

Wellbeing and Practice Workshops

We鈥檝e partnered with听听to co-create in-person workshops that support staff wellbeing, reflective practice, and continuous improvement in service quality.

Ongoing Consultation

We鈥檙e engaging directly with families, educators, regulators and authorities, inviting ideas, feedback and collaboration to help shape the safest possible learning environments.

Listening, Learning, and Leading

黑料专区 has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of misconduct involving children. We support sector-wide reforms that raise safety standards and protect every child, in every early learning setting.

We know that safety is built on trust. That鈥檚 why we are committed to:

  • Transparent, ongoing communication with our families and teams
  • Full cooperation with regulators and relevant Departments
  • Creating safe spaces for our people to speak up, reflect, and improve

If you have a suggestion, concern or question, we encourage you to contact our Family Support Team on 1800 244 532 or via feedback@affinityeducation.com.au.

Thank You for Standing With Us

Whether you鈥檙e a parent, grandparent, carer or educator, we know these past few weeks have been difficult. You鈥檝e shown resilience, care and courage, and we are so grateful for your trust.

We are in this together. And we will continue working, side by side, to create the safest and most nurturing early learning environments in Australia.

Families are invited to speak to their Centre Manager, or you can also call our Family Support Team on 1800 244 532 or email feedback@affinityeducation.com.au.

3. When did Affinity first become aware of this individual鈥檚 alleged illegal activity?
We were briefed on nature of the charges against this individual on 1 July 2025, when they were publicly reported. As of today, we have not been advised by Victoria Police of any charges or allegations specifically relating to the individual鈥檚 time at this centre.

4. Why did Affinity not tell parents sooner?
The matter was subject to strict legal suppression orders until it was made public on 1 July 2025. Affinity has fully cooperated with authorities at every stage and continues to do so. We have complied with legal and regulatory requirements, including directions around confidentiality. Our focus has been 鈥 and remains on supporting our teams, complying with the investigation and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children in our care.

5. Why didn鈥檛 Affinity act sooner?
As soon as we became aware of the matter, we provided relevant records to the authorities. We continue to cooperate fully with the investigation.

The individual held a Working with Children Check at the time of their employment. Our recruitment processes cover background and suitability checks, including reference checks and child safety training. We are reviewing our practices to ensure they remain robust and go beyond compliance wherever possible.

7. Why was this person working across multiple centres?
The individual was employed as a permanent part-time educator in August 2024 for a newly built centre which opened in November. While this is a common operational practice in the sector, we are now reviewing how these movements are managed through a stronger child safety lens.

8. Why has the information about which centres he worked at changed since it was first published by police?
Since being briefed on the matter, we have been undertaking a thorough review of our employment and staffing data and have shared any further information from that process with authorities. We are committed to transparency and will support the release of accurate information by the relevant authorities.

9. What additional safety measures are being taken?
Affinity is implementing a range of safety measures including:

  1. Ensure and plan refresher mandatory training for every Affinity employee across Australia on child safety policies, practices and legal obligations.
  2. Review centre layouts to identify and rectify blind spots.
  3. Audit visibility into all care areas, including toileting and nappy change spaces.
  4. Review and update policies to limit educators from working alone with children by including rostering, grouping and spot checks of supervision protocols in every centre.
  5. Investigate and support faster digitisation and centralisation of paper-based staff records when staff complete orientation visits, training and staff meetings, or split shifts across multiple centres.
  6. Formal consultations with our teams, parents and regulators on additional safety measures.

Affinity has implemented a number of strengthened safety measures already including a ban on the use of personal devices which has been in place since 2023.

10. Are you considering putting in CCTV in all centres?
Some centres have CCTV as part of broader safety and security measures, and we are currently reviewing our practices and coverage of CCTV in our centres.

11. Why do you employ male educators?
We believe children benefit from a diverse and inclusive workforce, which includes male educators. All staff 鈥 regardless of gender 鈥 are subject to the same rigorous screening and monitoring processes. We do not tolerate any form of abuse or misconduct from any educator.

12. Why are Storypark posts and photos being removed?
Some images from Storypark have been removed at the request of families. However, all images have been shared with Police. The images have been archived, not permanently deleted.

RESPONSE FROM AFFINITY EDUCATION GROUP CEO TIM HICKEY TO ABC TV鈥檚 7:30 PROGRAM

鈥淭hese are very serious and troubling matters. I want to express again how profoundly sorry I am that something like this could occur to any child in our care. It is something that never should have happened.

鈥淚 would like to reassure families we have a zero-tolerance approach to any form of child harm and will dismiss employees found to be in breach of this safeguard, as well as engage with external agencies up to and including police where required.

鈥淥ur people share the deep concern over failings when they occur in the early childhood education and care sector. The safety, wellbeing, and development of every child must always come first. I am personally committed to doing everything in our power to honour the trust that families place in us through transparency, accountability and an unwavering focus on quality care.

鈥淲hile even a single failing is one too many, it is also important to acknowledge these incidents are not representative of the dedicated, professional team who care for children every day across thousands of centres. The vast majority of people who work in early education, including those at Affinity, are deeply committed to nurturing, protecting, and educating children with compassion and integrity.

鈥淭o support our commitment to the children in our care, Affinity invests back, with over $70 million of capital spent on compliance, training, safety, care, systems and processes across our network over the past three years. We also reinvest in the professional development of our educators, including through our Affinity Learning Academy, a key sector differentiator and a widely-recognised development pathway that has helped more than 2,200 educators attain nationally recognised qualifications since 2017, and through our funded Bachelor degrees in the Affinity Teacher Scholarship pathway that was launched in 2019.听

鈥淚 would like to reassure all families, and our team, of the care and concern with which we treat matters like this. We will strengthen the trust families have in us by continuing to act with integrity and our ongoing investment in the quality of our centres and people, at the same time as continuing to work closely with regulators to improve standards.鈥

Among our many talented and valued Affinity-ites around Australia, April includes the Affinity Workiversaries of two wonderful early childhood educators and leaders in our sector. We would like to take the opportunity to recognise the work, dedication and passion of Tina, our Centre Manager at Milestones Early Learning Everton Park, who is celebrating 15 years, and Adriana, our Affinity Area Manager who is celebrating 18 years!

Miss Adriana

Miss Tina (R) with our Area Manager Kathy
Miss Tina (R) with our Area Manager Kathy

We asked Tina and Adriana to share with us their stories.

What motivated you to work in early education originally?听

Tina: After returning to Australia after being a nanny overseas I knew I wanted to continue working with children as I enjoyed being able to help provide a solid foundation for them as they developed and grew.

Adriana: I really liked children and knew I wanted to make a difference in their lives. From the age of 10 onwards, I was continually babysitting. A friend had twins and I couldn鈥檛 stay away! That was the start of my love for children, and career in early childhood education.

What鈥檚 the most important thing a child has ever taught you?

Tina: To be fully in the moment, laugh, have fun and enjoy the simple moments.

Adriana: Patience

How and听 why did you progress from being an educator, to a leader?听

Tina: I worked my way through the ranks, studied my certificate III then diploma before taking on an ACM, then CM role. I really enjoyed having input on the direction the centre was taking and truly believe the culture you create in the centre dictates how successful you will be.

Adriana: I always wanted to lead and be in a position to make change 鈥 I aspire to being a compassionate and available leader. I progressed through the qualifications available to our sector at the time, and then 黑料专区 acquired the centre I worked for back around 2015, and from there, I was provided with so much leadership and support to step into management roles, eventually becoming the Area Manager here in Townsville.

What are the greatest challenges early childhood educators face today, and how can larger companies like 黑料专区 support them best?听

Tina: Burnout is the biggest thing, it鈥檚 so important to work as team, and for us as Centre Managers, knowing the signs and supporting each other. Affinity are already supporting their educators with access to our EAP, and a culture of support.

Adriana: It鈥檚 easy to miss the potential for the difference we can make 鈥 the biggest thing Affinity can support us with is supporting positive interactions with children 鈥 getting back to basics, how to set up activities, how to create environments.

What are the greatest rewards from working in early childhood education?听

Tina: The relationships built with the children and families, being a part of their villages and offering guidance and support.

Adriana: Inspiring others to be great leaders, to see people progress.

Which of the Affinity Values do you align with the most and why? How do you demonstrate and enable this in your own teams?听

Tina: Living the Team Spirit- there is no one person who is more important than anyone else on our team, our centre is based on mutual respect and working together to highlight each individuals strengths.

Adriana: Being Completely Connected 鈥 I am always at the end of the phone and I have my team鈥檚 back.

Finish this sentence: At the end of every day, I hope I have....听

Tina: Made a difference, even just a tiny one to the lives of our families and children.

Adriana: Made someone smile!

Sum up your job in 3 words?

Tina: Rewarding, Fun, Engaging.

Adriana: Challenging, Inspiring & Fun!

After more than two years of collaboration and planning, 黑料专区 has launched our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) reflecting a national community commitment.

The plan鈥檚 launch took place in Brisbane on Turrbal and Yuggera land on 3rd April 2025 and was acknowledged nationally across all early childhood education centres operated by Affinity on Monday 7th April.

In partnership with , who provide Affinity鈥檚 indigenous early childhood education听program听and educator training as part of the group鈥檚 Lifelong Learning Curriculum, executives and members of the Affinity Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group met together for a smoking ceremony attended by Aboriginal Elder, Uncle Les McLeod from Dharug, Yuin and Ngarigo nations.

Supporting Uncle Les was Ms Gabby Collins, proud Aboriginal Lady from the Biripi tribe of Port Macquarie, NSW, and Ms Sophie Campbell, proud Aboriginal Lady from both Wiradjuri & Yuin nations of NSW.

North Brisbane RAP Ceremony Low Res-33

Brian Cook, founder of Wandana Aboriginal Education spoke at the launch, sharing the Wandana team鈥檚 feelings of 鈥榖eing compelled and inspired to move towards a higher level of vibration and spiritual awareness and connection to each other, and our ancestors of the past.鈥

鈥淲e strive everyday towards a deeper and more authentic connection to oneself, our Elders and community. With a kind heart, gentle steps, clear intention and an open mind, together we can resonate with our Elders, evolve into higher states of consciousness and inspire those around us,鈥 Brian said.

Dr Lesley Jones at 黑料专区 said the RAP published by Reconciliation Australia reflected 鈥榤any years of walking together towards this point as a national community of early childhood educators, teachers, managers and specialists who together are committed to the vision of reconciliation.鈥

Melanie Nour, who is co-chair of听the Reconciliation Action Plan working group at 黑料专区 Group said "Publishing our first Reconciliation Action Plan is a significant and meaningful milestone for 黑料专区. As a national early childhood education provider, we recognise the powerful role we play in shaping inclusive and respectful learning environments from the earliest years of life.鈥

鈥淭he Early Years Learning Framework reminds us that 鈥榗hildren are connected with and contribute to their world鈥 鈥 and we hold a responsibility to ensure every child sees their identity, culture and community reflected and respected in the learning environment.

鈥淭hrough our commitment to the Child Safe Standards, we recognise that cultural safety is not optional 鈥 it is essential. This RAP marks the beginning of deeper accountability, deeper listening, and a long-term commitment to truth telling, cultural safety and equity across all our services,鈥 Ms Nour said.

Many centres across the Affinity's community already have centre based RAPs and will continue to receive support to develop their own during 2025 and beyond. Further engagement planned post-launch of Affinity鈥檚 RAP will include a national audit of centres current RAP status and future planning.

鈥淩econciliation to us means ongoing reflection 鈥 on our actions, our thoughts, our behaviours and our practices. It involves acknowledging the injustices of the past, listening deeply, and walking forward in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples towards a shared future,鈥 Dr Lesley Jones, 黑料专区.

Reconciliation Australia has published the 黑料专区 RAP .
